John R. Bufkin Sr.

John R. Bufkin Sr., 84, passed away on Sept. 2, 2015, in Ochsner Hospital in Jefferson Parish. He was born in Gulfport, Miss., and lived in Covington for most of his life.

He was the owner and founder of Johnnies Diesel Service, Inc., in Metairie and Pro Diesel in Covington.

He was the loving husband of Trudy A. Bufkin for 24 years and the late Marion R. Bufkin. He was the devoted father of John Bufkin Jr. of Bogalusa, Dennis Bufkin of Bogalusa, Kevin Bufkin of Franklinton, Emily Bufkin Martin of Franklinton, and Brian Bufkin of Metairie.

He is also survived by his sister, Carol B. Fremonthal of Metairie, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Ronsonet Bufkin, and daughter, Barbara Bufkin James.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service at Doug and Robin Bufkin Simpson, 19208 Highway 1055, in Kentwood, on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2 pm.

He was in the U.S. Army, a Jefferson Parish police officer, a past member of the Shriners Farhad Grotto Bug Unit, and a 33rd degree Mason.
