Ellen McLaughlin Deal, a resident of Danville, Calif., died Jan. 9, 2018. Ellen was born in Wilmington, Del., on March 7, 1925. She married Edward Leon Deal in 1948 and they moved to Port Townsend, Wash., where Ed began his career with Crown Zellerbach Paper Company.
She raised six children, moving to Scappoose, Ore., Camas, Wash., and Bogalusa, before settling in Danville in 1975. Always open to new experiences, she treasured the people, lifestyle, food, and literature of Louisiana and the Deep South.
Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents, Joseph and Mary (Lafferty) McLaughlin; three sisters and her brother.
She is survived by her sister, Marge Gioffre and husband Joe; her sons, Michael, Kevin and wife Tunis, Andrew and wife Audrey, Stephen and wife Beatriz, Peter; her daughter, Mary Sears and husband Mike; her grandchildren, Emily, Eric, Ryan, Christopher, Danny, and Erin; and her great-grandchildren, Miles Sebastian, Jordan, and Jasmine; and her godchild, Mary Bannister.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial Mass celebrating Ellen’s life on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Isidore’s Catholic Church, located at 440 La Gonda Way in Danville.
