Pansy Barnes Tyson was born Jan. 2, 1931, to the late Tom and Leona Magee of Franklinton. On Saturday morning, May 25, 2019, she transitioned from labor to reward. Pansy was the fifth child of nine.

She was later married to the late Freddie Tyson and moved to Bogalusa, where she transferred her membership to Thirkfield United Methodist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Odell W. Christopher. She also was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club Eastern Gate Chapter 5 and was the mother of the Village Richardson Town Community.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Pamela (Albert) Magee of Franklinton, Freddie (Sharon) Brooks and Bruce Tommy (Vanessa) Tyson of Bogalusa, and Carol Denise Tyson of New Orleans; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two godchildren, Debra Lester and Michael Poole; a grandson that she raised, Kola Jackson, that helped her until death; the Rev. Louis Smith who she was his adopted god-mother; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and the Richardson Town Community.

Pansy Tyson was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Tyson; her parents, Tom and Leona Barnes; her sisters, Medosha Bethley, Dorothy Long, Shirley Barnes, and Burnell Poole; brothers, Elbert Barnes, Eddie Earl Barnes and Bruce Barnes; and two step-sons, Eddie Lee Tyson and Walter Tyson.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 31, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Saturday, June 1, at noon at Thirkield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nolan Robinson, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at Barnes Family cemetery.
