Long-time Daily News columnist Charles Rimes passed away on March 8, 2025, at eighty-seven years old. Charles began writing for The Daily News in October of 1990 with his column “Rhymes With”. In April of 2024, he returned to writing for The Daily News with a new column-“Reminiscing With Rimes”. Mr. Rimes also wrote for Starlight Christian Newspaper and was a favorite contributor to the Facebook page “Bogalusa Then and Now”.

Charles Rimes was born July 11, 1937, at his childhood home in Tylertown, Mississippi. After graduating high school at sixteen years old, Charles obtained an Associates Degree from attending Jones County Community College. He moved to Bogalusa after college where he became the first male teller at First State Bank and Trust Company. During his forty-two years of service with the bank, Charles obtained an Associates Degree in banking and retired as the Vice-President and Loan Officer in 1997. Charles also served in the military reserves.

After retirement, Charles became a licensed massage therapist and opened Magic Touch of Health Massage Studio which has been in operation since 1998. He obtained a property adjuster’s license as well, which he used to help many people with their insurance claims after several natural disasters. Charles enjoyed a prominent role in public affairs by participating in the Bogalusa Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, the Rotary Club, as well as serving as the President of the Bogalusa Country Club. Charles was also elected as 1964’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year.

Mr. Rimes’ reminiscing tales of days gone by were a favorite among local readers and will be missed.

is survived by his wife Linda Kennedy Rimes of forty-seven years, his daughter Kimberly Rimes “John” Hopkins, his three grandchildren and his twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 1pm at Highland Baptist Church, which is located at 21022 Highway 21 in Bogalusa. Interment will follow at Seal Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 5pm until 8pm, as well as Thursday morning at 10am until 1pm when services begin.
