Peggy Ruth Thompson McNeese

Peggy Ruth Thompson McNeese was born on Jan. 3, 1957, in Bogalusa, La., to Barney and Bessie Rae (Pierce) Thompson. She passed away at home on March 18, 2025, at age 68, with her daughter by her side.

Peggy, like her father, mastered many skills and followed her mother into nursing. She graduated from Sullivan Vocational Technical College as a licensed practical nurse in 1997 and moved to Rockdale, Texas in 2017 to be near her daughter. Peggy touched many lives through her nursing career. She enjoyed cooking, decorating, floral design, hunting, and outdoor activities. She loved sitting on her front porch and visiting neighbors and friends on her golf cart.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Bessie Rae (Pierce) Thompson, and her brother, John Steven Thompson. 

She is survived by her partner of many years, Ray Allen Killingsworth; her daughter Metta M’Lee McNeese; daughter-in-law, Chrystie Calhoun; her honorary daughter, Katja Bachelor; her uncle, Richard Allen Pierce; her sister-in-law, Beth Thompson, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Special thanks to Comforts of Home Healthcare, LLC, who provided hospice services for Peggy. Their kindness and compassionate care is greatly appreciated. The family would like to recognize Janill, Martha, Gladys, Gayle, Rachel, Susan and the entire team at Comforts.

A small service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, Texas from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

This will be followed by Funeral Service held at Lee’s Creek Baptist Church in Bogalusa, La. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with interment immediately following in the church cemetery.
