SPECIAL TO THE DAILY NEWS

District A proudly hosted its 11th Annual Clean-Up Days in conjunction with Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s “Love the Boot Week” (April 5–13), and the turnout was nothing short of inspiring. Held on Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12, the event brought together dedicated volunteers and organizations all working toward one mission, keeping our community clean, beautiful, and vibrant.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our incredible participants who lent their time and energy to this effort: Larry Brown, Tim Burris, Gabrielle A. Hopkins, Kaiden C. Hopkins, Gloria Kates, Thomas Kates, Andrew Laurent, Karyn Magee, Edward Magee, Jerry, Patrick Rhodes, Stephanie Yarbrough, and the City of Bogalusa Public Works team, who focused their attention on work orders and successfully fulfilled various ditch cleaning tasks.

WCI and the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Department, led clean-up efforts at Joseph Bailey Playground/Park. Chad Cassard and his team not only replaced swings and installed two new park benches, but also removed sidewalk debris, installed new side fence posts, and sponsored power washing of the playground slides and playhouse.

This year’s cleanup focused on high-litter areas in District A, including: Ann Street, Austin Street, Bayer Street, Carolina Street, Church Street, City Limits, College St, Convenience Street, Dauphine Street, Davis Street, North Border Dr., North Royal Street, Poplas Street, Redmond Street, Seal Street, Lexington, and public housing areas, just to name a few.

Many residents went above and beyond by adopting a block or committing to cleaning up their own properties. Special thanks to Terrence May and Joel Miller Jr., who kicked off efforts early by cleaning their property in the Poplas area.

We also extend our gratitude to Coastal Management for providing 30-foot roll-off dumpsters that were available throughout the weekend and into Monday. These were placed at strategic points including Redmond & Poplas and Austin & Bayer Streets—and were quickly filled, highlighting the strong community response.

The event ran from 8:30 AM to Noon each day, with lunch provided afterwards as a small token of appreciation for the hard work put in by all.

This year’s success is a testament to the power of community spirit, collaboration, and care. District A thanks each and every participant and partner for contributing to this much-needed and ongoing effort to keep Bogalusa beautiful.
