On Saturday, May 3, 2025, voters in Bogalusa, Louisiana, approved a property tax renewal to continue funding the city’s public schools. The measure, which extends an existing millage, ensures sustained financial support for the Bogalusa City School System without increasing taxes for residents.

The property tax specifically affects students in Ward 4, and the revenue is used to support the operations of the Bogalusa City School System without increasing taxes for residents. This includes funding for school maintenance, educational programs, staff salaries, and other essential services helping to maintain and improve public school facilities and reinforcing the community’s commitment to educational quality. Local school officials noted the importance of the renewal in ensuring stability for the school system. Bogalusa School Superintendent, Dr. Bryon Hurst thanked the community for their continued support with the renewal of the property tax by issuing the following letter:

“Dear Families and Community Members of Bogalusa City,

On behalf of the Bogalusa City Schools, I sincerely thank you for your support in the passage of the recent tax renewal measure. Your continued trust in our schools and your commitment to the success of our students mean so much to us.

This renewal is critical in allowing us to maintain high-quality educational programs, retain outstanding teachers and staff, provide safe and well-maintained school facilities, and offer the resources and opportunities that help every student thrive.

With your support comes the responsibility to be careful stewards of public funds. We are fully committed to using these resources with the utmost responsibility and transparency.

Thank you once again for your partnership in supporting our students and schools. Together, we will continue to build a brighter future for every child in Bogalusa.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Dr. Byron Hurst”

With the passage of the property tax renewal, the Bogalusa City School System is poised to continue providing a strong educational foundation for its students in Ward 4 and beyond.
