For two decades, Fertility Answers has been providing hope for those facing the financial and emotional toll of infertility through its annual Gift of Hope IVF Grant. This year will mark the 20th consecutive year the grant has been awarded.
“We started the Gift of Hope IVF Grant in 2006 not long after Hurricane Katrina,” says Dr. John Storment, board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and the founder of Fertility Answers, a regional provider of infertility services in Louisiana. “At the time, there was such an outpouring of giving from everyone in our community and we wanted to be a part of that in a way that aligned with our business.”
One in six Americans struggle with infertility each year, yet only about a quarter of healthcare insurers offer coverage for infertility treatment including in vitro fertilization, or IVF. A single round of IVF can cost upwards of $20,000, depending largely on the individual patient’s protocol and medications needed. Due to its high cost, many struggle financially to pay out-of-pocket to build a family. Further, many infertility diagnoses and the failure to conceive using less intrusive treatment options often make IVF the only treatment available with the chance to conceive for patients.
“We feel strongly that everyone should have the hope to build their families, no matter their financial situation or insurance coverage,” says Dr. Storment. Over the last 20 years, Gift of Hope grants have provided hope to 29 Louisiana individuals and couples, with thirteen Gift of Hope babies born as a result. Two more babies are due later this year.
Gift of Hope IVF Grant donors include Dr. John Storment and Dr. Neil Chappell, infertility specialists at Fertility Answers, and IVF lab services partner Ovation® Fertility. This year’s grant will be awarded July 31, 2025. Eligibility for applicants requires that they earn less than $120,000 per year, have no or limited insurance coverage for infertility, and that IVF is medically necessary to conceive.
Applications for the Gift of Hope IVF Grant are open to Louisiana individuals and couples and are available at FertilityAnswers.com. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2025.
