Our Lady of the Angels Health has been named one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals for 2025 by Newsweek, recognizing the hospital for its dedication to mothers, newborns and families.

Chosen from 444 hospitals nationwide, Our Lady of the Angels was selected for the award due to the care it provides not just in the delivery room, but throughout each patient’s entire pregnancy and postpartum period.

“We are so proud of this recognition. It truly reflects the dedication, expertise and compassion our team members consistently demonstrate to each patient at all times,” said Ralph Serpas, vice president and chief operating officer of Our Lady of the Angels Health.

The hospital’s attention to detail and efforts to prioritize patients are what set Our Lady of the Angels apart from other hospitals. Each team member strives to provide the best treatment, which is reflected in the various awards and recognitions the hospital has received in recent years.

“Our amazing team of pediatricians, obstetricians, nurses and lactation specialists all work diligently to provide safe, quality care for our patients no matter what situation may arise, either before, during or after pregnancy and childbirth,” said Patsy Welch, BSN, RN, IBCLC, C-EFM and director of labor and delivery. “It is an honor to receive this prestigious award, and it exemplifies the work performed day in and day out.”

Over the past few years, the hospital has advanced its maternity care program, constantly striving to improve birthing outcomes. It actively participates in a quality collaboration that addresses the immediate needs of newborn and maternity populations. Additionally, the hospital has led and participated in multiple projects aimed at improving health outcomes, health access awareness, healthcare confidence and the overall standard of living for the people of Washington Parish and surrounding communities.

Our Lady of the Angels Health works closely with the Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative to continue this growth. The collaboration enhances several areas within the hospital, including:

  • Emergency departments for obstetric readiness
  • Caregiver perinatal depression screening in the Our Lady of the Angels Pediatric Clinic
  • Breastfeeding and infant feeding outcomes
  • Improved outcomes for mothers and babies affected by substance and opioid use disorders
