Runners and walkers took their mark at the 19th running of the Milltown Classic last Saturday at Cassidy Park.
Winning an event like this is great, but the best part about it is that those running it helped a very worthy cause, the Rotary Club of Bogalusa.
Rotary, on the local and international level, helps people all over the world. They have all kinds of projects to help people.
Some of the projects on the local level include scholarships for qualified students and helping out the Bogalusa Food Bank.
Most of the funds from this race went toward scholarship for local students.
There is also a project done by Rotary International, of which the Bogalusa Rotary Club is a branch, that supplies shoes to orphans overseas.
Another major project of Rotary International has been an effort to eliminate polio from the face of the earth. The project is called Polio Plus.
This Milltown Classic the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Rotary Club of Bogalusa.
This race had a combined 36 runners and walkers.
The weather was a little hot and humid, but the main thing is that Mother Nature cooperated and held off on the rain.
Congratulations to Paul Dauterive being the overall winner and Kelly Ballard for being the top female runner. Dauterive ran the event in 17:42.
It was the third consecutive year that Dauterive has captured the race.
Ballard, who was 10th overall, finished in 24:41.
Also, thank you to everybody who participated in such a great event and thank you to all of the sponsors. By doing so, you helped make a difference.
