Three local football teams advanced to the regional round of the playoffs last Friday and tonight. Those three will continue their playoff runs in an attempt to get to the quarterfinal round.
Franklinton is the only Washington Parish team at home tonight, and the Demons are playing against Rayne in the Class 4A playoffs.
Class 2A’s Pine is one the road, facing the defending Class 2A state champion Kinder, and Varnado is traveling to West St. John in 1A.
When the playoffs come around in any sport, it’s an exciting time of year, but it’s also tough because it also means that sport’s offseason is right around the corner.
That also means excitement is here for other sports. This week, fans of local basketball teams had the chance to get inside away from the cold weather and enjoy action on the hardwood, as basketball season got under way for the five Washington Parish Schools in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
Bowling Green School and Ben’s Ford Christian School, who play in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools, started their seasons earlier this month.
Soccer for Franklinton and Pine’s boys and girls’ start soon.
As always, we encourage Washington Parish residents to get out and support your favorite high school as they try for a successful season and a deep run in the playoffs.
