Dear Editor:
On behalf of the officers and staff at the Franklinton Police Department, it is with the utmost reverence and admiration that we acknowledge the passing of Judge Clayton A. James. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family, and those who were privileged enough to call Judge James their friend.
The Town of Franklinton is a better place, enveloped with the significant impact judge had on his community. His inordinate influence in Washington/St. Tammany parishes personified dignity and distinction, of course bestowed upon us all by his ever so present charming regality. For those of us who knew him, our memories will forevermore be exalted by the enigmatic eloquence and wittiness in which Judge James conveyed his thoughts. His integrity was beyond reproach and only further reinforced the sentiment in which he was regarded. An imposing figure, characterized by his firm but fair inclination, the judge set the benchmark of what a true gentleman should be.
For a time, he blessed us with his friendship. For a time, his presence was felt. For a time, he gave all of himself to our community. His time will be remembered and although our hearts are saddened at this physical finality, his legacy will eternally endure. This is why we have respect for him. This is why we honor him, and this is why we grieve for him.
