By one count, approximately 1,200 attended Saturday’s third annual Business on the Block Family Fall Fest at Cassidy Park.

The event was so well attended, both sides of Willis Avenue had to be used for parking.

“I’m very pleased with the turnout,” event organizer Kallie Breland said. “I think that’s a pretty good turnout. We definitely appreciate the public’s involvement.”

The event was focused on the area’s children to give them wholesome free family fun.

Activities included Fun Jumps, an obstacle course, vendor booths, an antique car show, face painting, costume contests, live entertainment on the main stage and plenty of candy. Children also had the opportunity to pet and see live animals, such as donkeys. The Bogalusa High School cheerleaders and Bogalusa Timberdolls performed.

“The first year of the festival was on Avenue F, while the festival’s second year was at Goodyear Park.

“This year we probably had over 35 businesses who contributed donations or set up a booth,” Breland said.

“Breland co-owns La Petite La Riche Boutique on Avenue F with her mother and festival co-founder, Kathie Boleware.

“We have a business in the city and wanted something for the children to do,” Breland said. “That was our goal. This is an overwhelming feeling to see all these kids out here. This event was not for profit. We are here to give back to the community for a better Bogalusa.”

The event had a variety of contests, including air guitar contests and bubble gum blowing contests. With one of the biggest prizes of the evening, Baber’s gave away a television set during the activities.
