Ruth S. Miller

Ruth Elois Simmons Miller was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Bogalusa. She went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 28, 2014.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Elzy Lee Miller, Sr.; parents, Willie Leon and Mary Eliza Simmons; siblings, Bonnie Lou Simmons, Betty Joyce Simmons, Christine Sellier, Willie Leon Simmons Jr. and Richard Benjamin “R.B.” Simmons; and sons-in-law, Howard “PeeWee” Mahon and Leonard O’Briant.

She is survived by one sister, Lucille Smith; children, Elzy Lee Jr. and Janet Miller, Donis Mahon, Naomi and Alan Dias, Lisa & Jimmy Marks, Gail O’Briant, Michelle & Terry Bowman and Dana and George Guajardo. She leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, who call her MawMaw. They are: Charity and Zadee Dunn; Naomi, Alex, A.J., Ava and Axel Alejandro; Adam and Candace Miller; Heather and Augustine Ruiz; Brandon, Christy, Caleb and Evie Mahon; Brandi, Marlon, Malaki and Micah Blakes; Brittany Dias; Kari, Ethan, Breanna and Kaylee Marks; Jimmy Ray, Madeline and Cooper Marks; Katie Marks; Ashlie, Christian and Christian Hutton Jr.; T.J. and Valerie Bowman; Niko, Ember and Elizabeth Bowman; Christina, Lexi Jr. and Destiny Guajardo; Rosie Guajardo; Justin and Jacob Thomas; George, Jesika and George Daniel Guajardo; and Sean Guajardo, as well as sisters-in-law, Edwin Miller and Barbara Ann Miller and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth and family moved to Houston in 1972, and she was a long-time member of Munn Street Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and loved her Family. She was a faithful wife, mother, MawMaw and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

On Oct. 1, 2014, there will be visitation at 3 p.m. and a memorial service at 7 p.m. at Blackwell–Vazquez Funeral Home, 750 Uvalde, Houston. On Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, visitation was held at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, 610 Avenue F, Bogalusa, starting at 6 p.m. and lasting until 9 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, after 10 a.m. until service time at 2 p.m. The interment will be at Pounds-Poole Cemetery.
