Gladys Dyson

Mrs. Gladys Mae Dyson was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Mt. Hermon to the late Hattie and John Henry Washington. Early in life she married the late West Silas Dyson Sr. She departed this earthly life on Aug. 2, 2014, in Northridge Medical Center in Northridge, Calif.

Mrs. Gladys graduated from Mt. Hermon High School, then moved to Franklinton, where she spent most of her life. She joined the Sweet Rest Baptist Church and was a very active member. She sang in the choir and was also the secretary, the recording secretary of the church, devoted secretary of the mission, Vacation Bible school teacher and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a babysitter for many years.

Mrs. Gladys lived in Northridge, Calif., for the past nine years with her daughter (Gwen). While in California she would attend the St. Marks Baptist Church in Long Beach, Calif., under the leadership of Pastor John Berry. She was a church mother on the Motherhood Board.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory one sister, five children, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be Saturday, Aug 9, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Sweet Rest Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Mallory Callahan officiating. Interment will be held in Sweet Rest Cemetery.
