Kathleen Beard

Kathleen Horner Beard, age 89, was born on Oct. 3, 1924, in Bogalusa on Superior Avenue at home. She passed away in Ridgeland, Miss., on Wednesday Aug. 6, 2014.

She moved to Brandon, Miss., in 2003 because of failing health. In 2011 she moved to the Arbor Nursing Home, where she resided until her death.

She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Bogalusa. One of her favorite Bible verses from childhood was the 23 Psalm. She said she learned it at Bible school when she was a small child. She kept a copy of the shorter Catechism in her Bible and thought every child should learn it by memorization.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna W. Horner; father, Ernest F. Horner Sr.; and brothers, Ernest F. Horner Jr., Thomas E. Horner, Raymon W. Horner and William R. Horner.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra B. McClendon (Richard); two granddaughters, Paige M. Harper (Doug) and Sara M. Ivy (Chance); one grandson, Richard E. “Rick” McClendon Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Tyler Harper, Abigail Harper, Jacob Harper, Luke Harper, C. J. Ivy and Bascom Ivy; a niece, Tammie Hill; and a nephew, Thomas E. Horner Jr.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The funeral service was at 11 a.m. The Rev. James Blaha officiated.

Entombment continued at Sanctuary Of Peace Mausoleum in Ponemah Cemetery.
