Franklinton’s basketball team continued its summer league play this weekend at the Southeastern Louisiana University Team Camp and then they played two games in the Northshore Summer Basketball League.
The Demons went 3-2 at SLU.
They split the two games Friday, defeating Hattiesburg 42-28 and then lost to Teurlings Catholic 49-40.
Against Hattiesburg, Nick Burkhalter led the Demons with 11 points, followed by Tray Anders’ 10. Azende T. Magee posted eight with Quincy Stewart at six and Azende O. Magee posting three.
FHS played three contests Saturday. They won the first two 54-38 over St. Thomas Aquinas and 39-36 against Episcopal of Baton Rouge. The final contest was a 46-41 setback to Fontainebleau.
Franklinton coach Randall Ginn said the camp was good for his team.
“We got to see a lot of teams,” Ginn said. “We don’t get to play Hattiesburg. The camp gave us a chance to look at really solid basketball teams.”
Franklinton continued its play in the Northshore Summer Basketball League at Pelican Park Monday and got swept for the first time this summer.
The Demons lost the first game to Mandeville 48-43.
“We were still kind of tired from the camp, so I had us play a zone and work on that,” Ginn said. “I was pretty pleased with our execution. We just didn’t score the ball.”
The second contest was an up-tempo, but FHS fell against Covington 64-58.
“It was good high school game up-and-down the floor,” Ginn said. “We just missed a lot of free throws. The kids were disappointed, but you can’t miss free throws and blow and defensive assignments and expect to win.”
Franklinton was 4-4 in the Northshore Summer League at press time.
FHS played yesterday following press time. The Demons are off from the Northshore League next week and return to action June 23 against Northshore and Lakeshore at 5 and 6 p.m. respectively.
