Alice Mae Lenoir, 67, departed this life Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at her residence in Pearl River.

She was born in Tylertown, Miss., on April 22, 1946, the 10th of 12 children born to Josephine and Charlie Lenoir. She was raised in and was a resident of Bogalusa until moving to Pearl River two years ago. For many years she worked at nurseries, as a nanny and a housekeeper, until becoming disabled in the ’90s.

She was as longtime member of the Church of Christ, and she was loved and well-known by many.

She is survived by her companion of 52 years, Odell Kidd; one daughter, Brenda Lenoir (Cardale) Carter; two grandchildren, Shaneil Lenoir-Byrd (Anthony) and Kevin Magee; two great-grandchildren, Brendan Byrd and Alicia Byrd; one goddaughter, Brittany Buckley-Luke; two honorary grandchildren, Candice Burton Magee and Coleshia Moses Holifield; and many others who knew her as Granny.

She had special friends in her life, including Deborah Brown, Catherine Brister, Essie Stringer, Marie Buckley and Janice Jackson of Pearl River. She also left behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, E.L., C.L., John L., M.L., Henry, Charles and Charles Ray Lenoir; her sisters, Mary Louise, Charlene, Bobbie Jean Lenoir and Louella James; and a special friend, Gloria Buckley Smith.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 11 at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Billy Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Bogalusa Cemetery.
