It’s always great to see local people doing well, whether it be here in Washington Parish or across an international border.
In sports, Otha Foster III is playing professional football in the Canadian Football League. He is a defensive back for the Edmonton Eskimos.
Foster, who graduated from Varnado in 2006, was on the injury list for the first week but is getting back at it and helping his club.
The Eskimos lost their first game of the season to Toronto, 26-11. The bye week came early in the season, week two to be exact, and since then, the team has run off two straight to get to 2-1.
In the two games since coming off the injured list, Foster has recorded 3 and 5 tackles, respectively, and has a pass knockdown from his defensive back position.
Foster, who is in his second year in the Canadian Football League, played in 16 games last season, all starts, and made 46 defensive tackles while adding five more on special teams. He also knocked down five passes, intercepted a pass, sacked a quarterback, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
Edmonton, which was one game from playing for the Grey Cup last year, is 2-1 on the season. The team is tied for second place with BC in the West Division and is even in the loss column with first-place Calgary (3-1).
The Eskimos are set to begin a two-game home stand. The next game is tomorrow against Winnipeg. Then next week, the Eskimos play against Saskatchewan at home on July 31.
We look forward to seeing Foster continue to play well and wish him and Edmonton good luck with the rest of the season.
