Evelyn Dick Cassidy, 95, a native of Amite and long-time resident of Bogalusa, quietly succumbed in the presence of immediate family on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.
She was born July 3, 1918, and as a young woman she was employed as a secretary at the Bogalusa Paper Corporation and participated in the city’s 25th Silver Anniversary Jubilee Celebration as a member of the first Paper Queen Court.
As a wife and mother, Evelyn enthusiastically served as a Cub Scout den mother, Camp Fire leader and with the Northside Elementary School PTA. In later years she was active in the Bogalusa Civic League, Ingleside Literary Quorum and Washington Parish Republican Women’s Club. She was a faithful member of Annunciation Catholic Church, where she served as past president of the Ladies Altar Society and on the YWCA Board of Directors.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 61 years, Charles J. Cassidy; her daughter, Carol Cassidy Bush; and her parents, George H. Dick and Addie Durnin Dick of Franklinton.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Michael and Bette Killingsworth Cassidy; a son-in-law, Nathan W. Bush; 10 grandchildren, Charles M. “Chip” Cassidy II, Mark Patrick Cassidy, Tyfanni Ann Cassidy, Stephanni Jean Cassidy, Kamala Cassidy Jones, Kelli Cassidy Sanburn, Meghann Cassidy Brown, Whitney Cassidy Bahm, Michael Patton Bush and Cassidy Bush Primes; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by two brothers, George F. Dick of Baton Rouge and Carl I. (Jerri) Dick of Franklinton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from noon until time for the Funeral Mass services celebrated by Father Patrick Collum at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment followed at Ponemah Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Charles M. “Chip Cassidy, Mark Patrick Cassidy, Michael Patton Bush, Jeffrey Primes, Justin Brown, Coty Jones and Maxwell Bahm.
