FORNEA
Carl Fornea Jr., 70, passed away July 14, 2013, at his home in Varnado, surrounded by his large family.
He was a very special person, and always there to help anyone who needed him. He was born May 19, 1943, to Carl and Gladys Fornea. He spent his whole life in Varnado. He will be missed very much by all who knew him. Our lives will never be the same without him.
He was married to the love of his life Patsy Stafford Fornea 52 years ago and graduated from Varnado High School in 1961.
He is survived by three children, Carl (Faye) Fornea III, Suzi (Mark) Kennedy and Steven Fornea; six grandchildren, Jason Tara (Tara) Fornea, Terry (Mike) Blackwell, Carl (Macey) Fornea VI, Jonathan Fornea, Kristina (David) Kennedy, and Alaina Kennedy, all of Varnado; five great-grandchildren, Skylar Blackwell, Jaden Fornea, Jaylee Fornea and Ryan Ard; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice Freeman, Bert (Ben) Hartzog, Jessie (George) Jones, Rosa Carrier and Kathy (Willie) Jordan; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carline Marie Fornea, who passed away at the age of 8; his parents, Carl and Gladys Fornea; a brother, Gene Fornea; a sister, Margrette Freeman; and brothers-in law, Billy Ray Freeman and Ray Jordan, Myrle Carrier, Willmon (Share) Freeman and Charles Stafford.
He worked at the box factory for many years and was an employee of Bogalusa Iron Works for several years. He was owner of Fornea and Sons Trucking for 33 years. He was also Varnado’s assistant chief of police for several years, serving with his best friend, Floyd Hobgood. He served as fire chief with the Varnado Fire Department for several years.
Visitation was held Tuesday, July 16 at Brown-McGehee Funeral home from 4-10 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Karl Wood, the Rev. Dave Diamond and the Rev. Chad Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Freeman Cemetery in Varnado.
Pallbearers include Chris Jones Benji Hartzog, Patrick Collins, Tim Freeman, Brian Dunn, Dylan Jordan, Tom Freeman and Johnny Bria. Honorary pallbearers include Leroy “Slick” Seal, George Jones, Ben Hartzog, Willie Jordan, and his nephews, Tommy Freeman, Wayne Freeman, Will Freeman, Billy Ray Freeman Jr., Danny Jones, George Jones Jr., Scooter Jordan, Tim Dillon and Lewis.
