Henry Leo Liuzza Jr., 64, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his home in Franklinton.

Born Nov. 1, 1948, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton and retired from the Department of Environmental Quality. He enjoyed drinking coffee while visiting with his friends and also cooking for his family, especially his favorite breads. Leo was a frequent card-player but loved to spend most of his time playing golf. He was a loving husband, father and a very caring devoted grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Magee Liuzza of Franklinton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lindsey Marie Liuzza of New Orleans, Dr. Wendy Simmons Moreland and Richard Moreland of Huntsville, Ala. and Dr. Melissa Simmons Riess and Kelly Riess of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Sarah Riess, Megan Moreland, Kate Moreland and Henry “Hank” Maureaux; two sisters, Mary Liuzza (David) Thornhill of Albany and Rosalie Liuzza (Gary) Blackledge of League City, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rickey and Cathy Magee of Franklinton and June and Richard Byrd of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jay Simmons; his parents, Henry Leo Liuzza Sr. and Josephine “Phyne” Costa Liuzza; three sisters, Henrietta Liuzza Kirby, Antoinette Liuzza and Kathryn Liuzza; and a brother-in-law, Larry Magee.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 20 at Crain Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Paul Watts, the Rev. Dale Parker and Richard Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Springhill-Magee Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Ronnie “Luke” Blackledge, Henry “Jake” Blackledge, Garland Thornhill, Mike McNeal, Daniel Cheramie and Evan Magee. Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Clesi, Dick Guerin, Ben Jones, Ron McGlothlin, Buddy Crain, Randy Magee, Bob Wallace, Anthony Liuzza, Hulen Mashon, Mike Bollinger and Jack Liuzza.

Memorial donations can also be made to First Baptist Church of Franklinton or the Charles Montgomery Scholarship Fund, c/o FBC-Franklinton.
