Lawrence “Shorty” Edward Morris Sr., 61, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Ochsner Memorial Hospital in Slidell. He was born on Oct. 26, 1951, in Independence.

He leaves his wife, Sandra White Morris; his mother, Juanita Morris Bias; his godfather, Freddie Jefferson I; three sons, Lawrence (Monique) Morris II of Bogalusa, Derrick (Monique E.) Morris of Akron, Ohio, and Lance Morris of Varnado; one stepdaughter, Tasha Chestnut of Leesville; three sisters, Phillis Morris of Grand Prairie, Texas, Sandra Moore of Baton Rouge and Hazel Morris of Rowlett, Texas; eight brothers, Linsey Miles of Angie, Lonnie Morris Jr. of Baton Rouge, Jimmy (Doll) Morris of Las Vegas, Bert Morris of Varnado, Frank Morris of Manhattan, N.Y., Derron Jefferson of Angie, Kenneth (Maxine) Jefferson of Baton Rouge and Freddie (Callie) Jefferson II of Baton Rouge; two aunts, Gertrude Graves of Angie and Mary Hobbs of Chicago; one uncle, Clinton Morris of Angie; 10 grandchildren, Raven, Louis, Jordan, D’Ericka, D’Mya, Malia, Kennedi, Cameron, Elliott and Alana; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, in-laws, and a mass amount of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Morris Sr.; his grandparents, Walter Morris and Margie Morris, and Hazel Johnson and Frank Sam; great-grandmother, Lillie Sheridan; and mother-in-law, Mary “Red” White.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 15 at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home from 2-5 p.m. A wake service will be held at Wesley Ray Methodist Church from 6-8 p.m. On Saturday at 1 p.m., the funeral service will be held at Wesley Ray United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Terrence S. August, pastor, and the Rev. Leonard Craft, officiating. Burial will follow in Bogalusa Cemetery.
