Bogalusans have a new source for their morning cup of coffee, Chewy’s Coffee & Tea Company, which opened last month at 601 Columbia Street.

The business offers premium coffees and teas, including espresso, cappuccino, lattes, frappes and more, along with smoothies, pastries and bags of coffee by the half pound. Free Wi-Fi is also available.

Owner Kyle Oakman, a New Orleans native, said he decided to open his business in Bogalusa because he has family in the area. Furthermore, he said, the city needed a coffee shop and another place for people to hang out.

As word spreads that the shop, named after Oakman’s brother, is open, business has been picking up, he said.

“I do have regular customers and I do see new faces every day,” he said.

Chewy’s, Oakman said, has “plenty of atmosphere, ambience and character.” The coffee shop is open from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m., seven days a week.
