The winner selected for the third through fifth grade is “Young Zeus,” by Brian Karas, with the runner up The Junkyard Wonders,” by Patricia Polacco.

The Enon Branch Library has said it was a lot of fun working with the Enon Elementary School these past few months to complete the 2013 Louisiana Young Reader’s Choice (LYRC) Award Program.

Each student in the third, fourth and fifth grades were read three of the third through fifth grade selection of LYRC books, including “Ol’ Bloo’s Boogie-woogie Band” and “Blues Ensemble” by Jan Huling, “All Star! Honus Wagner and the Most Famous Baseball Card Ever” by Jane Yolen, and “Young Zeus” by Brian Karas.

The students were also given the opportunity to read any of the other titles of the 2013 LYRC list, available for check out at the Enon Public Library. The library also provided incentive to read as many books as the students could with the “Read for a Snickers” program, where they could come by the public library with their parents and answer a question about one of the books they read in order to win a Snickers bar.

Finally, each student was given the chance to vote for his or her favorite 2013 LYRC book at school and make a bookmark to enter into the LYRC Bookmark Contest, to be judged by the Enon Public Library.

For Mrs. Graham’s third-grade class, the winner is Grace Mitchell, with Wyatt Sharp the runner up.

For Mrs. Tate’s third-grade class, the winner is Jalynn Persick, and the runner up is Carly Talley.

For Mrs. Bryant’s fourth-grade class, the winner is Seth Call and Garron Castille is the runner up.

For Mrs. Emmons’ fourth-grade class, the winner is Alex Fussell and Tony Wheat is the runner up.

For Mrs. Ballard’s fifth-grade class, Triston Castille is the winner and Terry Zeringue the runner up.

For Mr. Helmstedder’s fifth-grade class, Chloe Dement is the winner and Tim Thomas the runner up.

All winning bookmarks have been made available to the public at the EnonPublic Library.
