SINGLETON

John Singleton, who was born June 5, 1948, entered into his next life at the age of 64 on March 9, 2013, in Tacoma, Wash.

He grew up in Bogalusa, along with his siblings, and he attended school at Central Elementary and Central High. He joined the job corps and trained as an auto mechanic at McKinny Job Corps Center in McKinny, Texas. After receiving his apprentice certification in auto mechanics, he worked very hard in his neighborhood working on cars and trucks. He later moved to Tacoma, where he continued doing what he liked to do best, working with his hands, and he kept many of his nieces and nephews’ cars working. He was blessed with a gift for drawing, enjoyed fishing, sports and eating delicious food. He showed love and kindness to everyone, especially his family, and was able to bring laughter to those fortunate enough to know him. He was employed by Tacoma Boat for many years until he was unable to continue for medical reasons.

He gave a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a kind heart, a caring spirit, and an incredible sense of humor.

He leaves to cherish his fun memories, two sons, Timothy Dillon and Graylon (Sandy) Dillon of Las Vegas Nev.; a daughter, Jackie Dillon of Las Vegas; three loving sisters, Josephine McQuarter and Mary Singleton, both of Charlotte/Huntersville, N.C., and Gerthal McBain of Tacoma; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a special nephew and care provider, Fredrick Singleton; his only sister-in-law, Essie L. Singleton of Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Maurice Singleton; two brothers, Willie (Dub) and Roosevelt (Sonny) Singleton; and a grandson, DeVante’ Dillon-McCarty.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Chapel in Tacoma, preceded by a visitation beginning at10 a.m.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and

I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
