Wayne Michael Tyson, 80, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, at his home in Mt. Hermon.

He was born April 2, 1932, in Freeport, Texas but spent his childhood in Port Sulphur, where he attended grade school and high school. He joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and served his country during the Korean War. A longtime employee of Dixie Brewing Company in New Orleans, he was a resident of St. Bernard Parish until 2005, when Hurricane Katrina forced his relocation to Washington Parish.

He is survived by two beloved sisters, Myrtie Tyson Champagne and Martha Tyson Stella; two nieces, Susan C. Delahoussaye and Tricia S. Lincoln; four nephews, David Champagne, Paul Champagne, Thomas Champagne and Carlo Stella; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

His beloved parents, Barty Tyson and Emma Gagneaux Tyson, and a sister, Ola Mae Tyson, preceded him in death.

Visitation was held Tuesday, March 12 at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton from 11 a.m. until noon, at which time a memorial service was held in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Jeremy Ingram officiating. Entombment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Port Sulphur at a later date.
