ARLT

Sadie Adams Arlt, 88, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, at her home in Bogalusa, while surrounded by her family.

She was one of 11 children born of the marriage between Martha Jenkins Adams and Sherd Adams. With her passing, the area loses another link to the ancestry of the Florida Parishes.

Born July 20, 1924, Sadie graduated from Varnado High School and during World War II went to work at the United States Naval Station in New Orleans, where she met, and on Nov. 14, 1943, married William Arlt, a serviceman who was assigned there as an electrician.

After they moved to Bogalusa in 1954, she established Arlt’s Flower Shop and the couple and their closely held business, in time became iconic features of the Washington Parish social and commercial scene.

She belonged to many service organizations and was an active member of Annunciation Church and a longtime supporter of Annunciation School as her children, grandchildren and now her great-grandchildren attend the school.

Her parents, her husband of 57 years and her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Robert Lyons, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children Sondra McGehee (Bill), Lynn LoCoco (Santo), Greg Arlt (Mary Jane) and Jeannie Arlt; her grandchildren, Jennifer Pope (Scott), Josh McGehee (Heidi), Rob Lyons, Scott Lyons (Michele), Bryant and Greg Arlt, II, Rob Little, Christopher and Mark LoCoco, Katherine and Jonathan Henderson;

her great-grandchildren, Madison and Seth Pope, Will and Allie McGehee, Ian and Libby Lyons, David Stewart II, Mallory and Braden Arlt.

Her wake was held Friday, April 12 at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in Bogalusa and a private funeral service was held at Annunciation Catholic Church on Saturday, April 13.

She had a special bond with and was proud of her grandsons and as such, they served as pallbearers to carry her to her final resting place next to her beloved husband.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Annunciation School or a charity of your choice.
