The Bogalusa Lady Jacks traveled to Amite on Friday hoping to get a big District 8-3A win, but hot 3-point shooting by the Lady Warriors helped carry the home team to a 55-48 win. With the loss the Lady Jacks fall to 6-12 overall on the season and 1-2 in district play.

Amite knocked down four shots from behind the arc in the first quarter to help them build a 14-10 lead going into the second. The Lady Warriors would hit three more 3-pointers in the second quarter as Bogalusa committed turnovers that led to easy points for their opponent. By halftime, Amite’s lead grew to 34-19.

The Lady Jacks outscored Amite in the second half of the game, getting as close as 52-44 with 2:16 left to play. However, Amite kept its composure in the face of the charge and was able to run out the clock on their way to the 55-48 win.

Senior Gabrielle Alexander led the Lady Jacks with 18 points. Also in double figures was Shanekqua Mingo with 11. Bogalusa also got six points from J. May, five apiece from Meigon Parker and Dairra Phillips and three from Erin Crawford.

Head coach Adrian Frazier pointed out the importance of the next two games for his team.

“We get to play twice at home next week, and we have to win those games if we want to stay in the playoff hunt,” he said.
