To the casual observer, and that certainly includes a lot of curious Bogalusans, construction of the Walmart Super Center on a 20-acre site located west of Shriners Drive and north of Ontario Avenue seems to be continuing at a good clip.

The building and grounds are looking good, and upgrades to the streets and traffic signals at the store’s approach are already completed or well under way.

But the Super Center’s opening date has been pushed back to early March, according to Walmart spokesman Daniel Morales.

The store was initially scheduled to open late this month, and later pushed back to January. Morales did not respond when asked the reason for the latest delay.

He did say that when it does open, the new Walmart will employ approximately 300 people. The application process, which will include online submission possibilities, will reportedly begin shortly after the first of the year.

The 120,000-square-foot store will feature a full line of groceries as well as a bakery, a delicatessen, and frozen food, meat, dairy and fresh produce sections. General merchandise areas will include a full-service pharmacy plus apparel and accessories, sporting goods, electronics, home, fine jewelry, health and beauty, and a lawn and garden center. �
