Bogalusa, Varnado crews in first-place at White River Race

The Bogue Tuchenna Scout District, encompassing Washington and St. Tammany Parishes and sponsored by the Istrouma Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, found five of its canoe crews at the top of the leader board following the first day of the 46th Annual National Invitational White River Canoe Race that began in Bull Shoals, Ark. on Thursday.
The district representing Bogalusa Post 313, under advisor Robert Miller and Varnado Post 200, under advisor Dora Mohan, fielded a total of eight teams in the adventure race that concluded in Batesville, Ark. on Saturday. Bogalusa has a record nine overall championships in the race’s history.
Bogalusa Venturer Crew 313’s boys open cruising team sat in first place among two competitors in the division with a time of 5:06:04. The boys advanced aluminum team was in second in 5:39:13.
Two separate boys novice aluminum teams found themselves in first and second place amongst five competitors with times of 6:07:44 and 6:24:58. Varnado Venturer Crew 200’s girls novice aluminum team was also in first place with a time of 6:39:14.
Only paddling one leg of three, Crew 313 also had two teams in first and second place in the boys aluminum beginners race with times of 2:01:46 and 2:06:05 while Crew 200’s girls beginner team was also in first at 2:02:23.
Crew 313 members include Paul Dauterive, Josh Treadway, Jonathan Pierce, Tyler Milner, Roo Breland, Colby Spears, A.J. Holmes, James Stillwell, Luke Owens, Johnathan Turner, Adam Economo, Eric Richard, Kyle Pennino, Duncan McClenden, Maison Montgomery, Mason Cooper, Tim Smith, Brannan Crosby, Zach Mitchell, Hayden Thorton, Austin Hunt, Tyler Seals, Travis Singley, Joseph Arabi and Landon Arabi.
Crew 200 members include Morgan Thigpen, Kirsten Barber, Grace Fornea, Laiton Jenkins, Sabrina Meyn, Jessica Lann, Sierra Rowe and Ryan Smith.
