The Dream Factory was the beneficiary of a recent fundraiser by the Bowling Green Interact Club. President Jessica Williams and sponsor Dixie Cody worked together to organize and promote the fundraiser, which was carried out by all the members of the club. For a small fee, members delivered several hundred Valentine-themed candygrams to the faculty and students at Bowling Green School.
Each candygram contained a special handwritten note and a bag of candy. Following the successful event, the club presented The Dream Factory with a check totaling $700.
The Dream Factory is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit, wish-granting organization that grants dreams to children ages 3 through 18 who are diagnosed with critical or chronic diseases. The organization depends entirely upon donations, grants and fundraisers such as this to fund the dreams of children throughout the area.
According to Area Coordinator Audrey Pierce, the Franklinton chapter was proud to accept the check from the Bowling Green School and challenged other schools to get involved.
“Of the 28 dreams we have granted,” said Pierce, “22 have been students in the Washington Parish School System. One fundraiser in each school would fund the dream of one of our children.
“Each dream that we award will cost this chapter approximately $4,000,” continued Pierce. “The children we cater to do not have the quality of life that most of our children and grandchildren have. Their lives are filled with so many uncertainties: Their days are filled with medications, wheel chairs, doctor appointments, hospital stays and emergency rooms. Each dream is as unique as the child that dreams it,” said Pierce.
