Rev. Harry Delbert McIntyre

Rev. Harry Delbert McIntyre, 88, a resident of Enon, went home to be with his Lord at 2:25 p.m. on the beautiful Sunday afternoon of Nov. 15, 2015.

Brother Harry, as he was fondly known, was born June 28, 1927, in the Great Southern Lumber camps of Georgetown, Miss. Four years later, the camps moved to Enon, where he and his sister, Mary Louise, lived with Emma and David Corkern as much loved foster children.

Harry went to school at Enon High School, and joined the Marines during the latter part of World War II. He served in the Marine Corps from 1945 through 1948, primarily in the cleanup of China.

Bro. Harry returned to Enon, worked on tugboats and at the Gaylord Paper Mill until he was ordained as a Baptist minister at Enon Baptist Church. He then received his B.A. in Theology from Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., and later received his M.Ed. from Southeastern Louisiana University.

Bro. Harry pastored several churches in Washington Parish and Mississippi and also taught fifth grade at Folsom Elementary for more than 20 years. He spent his retirement years residing in Enon and remained a member of Enon Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Murphy McIntyre of Enon; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary McIntyre Jones of Isabel, Emma McIntyre Ard and Kenneth Ard of Oak Grove, Harriett McIntyre Hickman and Michael Hickman of Springhill, Betty McIntyre Talley and Douglas Talley of Enon; two stepchildren and spouse, Glenn Turnage, Rebecca Turnage Mizell and Robert Mizell; grandchildren and spouses, Brent Jones, Kyle Jones, Jennifer and Alberto de la Garza, Ryan and Johnna Ard, Michael and Jill Hickman, Amy and David Soignier, Clint and Hanna Hickman, Melissa and Steve Gaines, Krystal and Danny Hadad; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five step-great-great-grandchildren; special friends, John Magee and Jeff Duet; and also numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other family members.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the wonderful caregivers, Roxie Urban and Jennifer Warren, for the love shown to their father through the difficult times.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Bettye Corkern McIntyre; his foster parents, David and Emma Corkern; his birth parents, Harry McIntyre and Mary Brock McIntyre; stepson, Ralph Turnage and great-grandson Joshue de la Garza.

Visitation was at Enon Baptist Church on Tuesday, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A funeral service was held at the church following the visitation with the Rev. Chris Wheeler and the Rev. Derek Dantin officiating. Burial followed, with military honors, in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Enon Baptist Church, 14049 Hwy. 16, Franklinton, LA 70450.

Pallbearers were Brent Jones, Michael Hickman, Ryan Ard, Kyle Jones, Clint Hickman, Steve Gaines, Danny Hadad and Vander Turnage. Honorary pallbearers were John Magee, Jeff Duet, Chris Ginn, Alan Williams, Bruce Taber, Kenneth Jones, Bruce Knight and Hugh V. Bateman.
