One of the greatest feelings for an athlete is being able to celebrate a championship.
It’s one thing that every team strives for, but one team can achieve each season.
For 2006 Varnado High School graduate Otha Foster III, he realized that dream when his Edmonton Eskimos captured the Grey Cup championship on Sunday night with a 26-20 victory over Ottawa.
Winning the title was anything but easy in a very exciting game that went down to the wire.
The team got off to a rough start. Ottawa scored on its first possession and then Edmonton fumbled the kickoff and Ottawa scored again to go up, 13-0, at the outset.
But Edmonton continued to battle back and took a 17-16 lead to halftime.
Ottawa went back in front, but trailing, 20-18, Edmonton scored the game-winning touchdown.
The defense forced a punt on the ensuing possession and the offense ran out the clock.
It’s moments like this that athletes remember forever. It’s about the celebration with your team and everybody that had a part in the title run.
Edmonton won 10 straight games to close out the season in the championship run.
Congratulations to Foster and the Edmonton Eskimos on the Grey Cup championship.
