The Bogalusa Rotary Club recognized Detective Sgt. David Miller as the club’s “Police Officer of the Year” during Tuesday’s club meeting. We congratulate Miller for this honor, and join the club in acknowledging that he is worthy of the recognition.
Miller has been with the Bogalusa Police Department since 2001, and joined the detectives department shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. His story is a unique one. After spending 16 years in the communications industry, Miller decided that he wanted to pursue his childhood dream of being a police officer. He said he wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, especially the lives of children and the elderly.
In today’s modern world, it’s become all too common to disrespect and demean police officers. Media reports of the ocassional corrupt officer should not slander an entire profession. Cops make sacrifices and put their lives on the line every day, and they are deserving of our support, encouragement and prayers.
Congratulations again to Miller, and thanks to all of our law enforcement officers for the job they do.
