Durvis Swallow

On Sunday, March 20, 2016, at 4:40 a.m., the Lord called Durvis Swallow. Durvis was born to the late Reverend Nelson and Mable Pete Swallow on Dec. 16, 1938 in Mamou. He was married to Ireane Hall Swallow, the twin sister of Loreane Hall Luter.
Durvis leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Ireane H. Swallow; two daughters, Marlene Gail Handy and Iran M. Brock, both of Houston, Texas; two sons, Hubert Brock II of Hinesville, Ga., and Harold Brock of Oakdale; three sisters, Tammy (Lawrence) St. Andrew, Pearlanna Carron and Andrea Sheila Jackson, all of Port Arthur, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Veronica Senegan; a cousin, Zita Senegan; three sisters-in-law, Loreane (Atwood) Luter of Bogalusa, Beulah Dixon of Applespring, Texas, and Ethel White of San Antonio, Texas; one brother-in-law, Roscoe Hall of Oakdale; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Odey and Caldonia Pete; and two brothers, Dudley Swallow Sr. and Jerry Swallow Sr.
Viewing will be Saturday, March 26, from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral at Greater Hayes A.M.E. Church, located at 602 Mill St. in Oakdale. The Rev. Michael Martin is pastor and the Rev. Walter Lawson, pastor of Greater Walter A.M.E. Church in Leesville, is officiating.
Interment will follow in Oakdale Community Cemetery.
