Ruby Felps

Ruby Summers Felps was born in Electra, Texas, but grew up in Denham Springs.
Upon graduating from Denham Springs High School, she attended Our Lady of the Lake nursing school in Baton Rouge.
In 1944, she married Jules E. Felps and settled in Baton Rouge, where Jules worked at the Exxon Refinery. While there, two children, Donna Lynn and David Jules, were born.
In 1956, they moved to Denham Springs on Range Avenue. While there, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and for many years, served as Mother Advisor for the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. At the age of 40, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse and worked for five years at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Later, they moved to a beautiful country home on Highway 16.
Upon the death of Jules, in 2007, she moved to Bogalusa, near her daughter, and became a member of First Baptist Church. She died at her residence on April 21, 2016.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jules E. Felps; her son, David Jules Felps; her brothers, D.K. Summers and Terry Summers; her sister, Dorothy Joyce Zeringue; and parents, David K. and Viola Glazner Summers.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Brown (Richard); her brothers, Dale Summers (Peggy) and Joseph Summers (Nell); her sister, Sandra Summers Tessier; grandchildren, Kristi Galofaro (Brian) and Melissa Seal (Jeremy); and great-grandchildren, Felicia and Tiffany Seal, Abigail and Lauren McNeal and Ella Claire Galofaro.
Visitation was held on Saturday, April 23, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Graveside service was held at 3 p.m. at Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Adams officiated the service.
