One man is in custody and charged with murder following a homicide in Franklinton on Tuesday.
Demario Warren was booked into the Washington Parish Jail at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday and charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. He allegedly shot and killed Kaniaki Williams at 1:58 a.m. earlier that day.
Franklinton Police Major Justin Brown said he believes the shooting is related to a robbery, although he added the investigation is ongoing and Warren is not cooperating.
“He didn’t want to speak to us and obviously the victim can’t tell us,” Brown said.
In addition, there could be other arrests.
However, Brown added that police believe Warren is the primary suspect responsible for the murder. Brown did not give details into the investigation, but he said various individuals interviewed by police named Warren as a suspect.
“Through the investigative process we were able to immediately establish him as a suspect in the case,” Brown said.
The major added that if there are other arrests, they will be people who acted as accessories to the murder and aided and abetted Warren.
