Besides repairing Cassidy Park, the city is also rebuilding The Washington Parish Council on Aging’s building on Willis Avenue, too.
The building was badly damaged in the March 11 flooding, and James Hall, the city’s public works director, said contractor bids will be opened in July, and work should begin immediately.
“It’s ready to be reworked,” he said. “All the sheetrock is out, the insulation is outa d its been treated for mold and mildew.”
All of that work was done by All Hands Volunteers, which cost the city nothing.
Hall said he expects the contract work will take two months, and the Council on Aging should be back at home by October.
However, Annette Hernandez, a community outreach advocate with the Council on Aging, pointed out her group will still need to replace much of what was inside the office.
Therefore, the local group that helps with elderly needs is hoping people can donate funds.
“We are accepting donations of anyone who wants to help get the building up and running,” she said.
Hernandez said if anyone would like to make a donation, they can call 985-839-4535 and ask for Nancy McBeth.
