Virgil Ray Hunt, 86, passed away at his home in Bogalusa, on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016.

He was a lifelong resident of Bogalusa. He was a retired millwright with 46 years of service at Crown Zellerbach and owned Treasure Hunt Antiques since the mid-1970s. He was a member of Lee’s Creek Baptist Church and he was baptized in the creek as a boy, with his brother and father.

He loved refinishing and repairing antiques for his customers. He was always on the look out for things to buy for his shop. Over the years he raised cows, horses, donkeys, sheep, goats and chickens. He bred and sold rat terriers for years. He gave away hundreds of bags full of satsumas every year from his very prolific bush in his yard. He was very kind to everyone he met. He was very active until his illness in April.

He is survived by a son, Virgil Steven Hunt (Regina); daughters, Robyn Hunt Sheridan (Shelly) and Kimberly Alane Hunt Kawick (James); former wife, Mary Kay Toca Hunt, all of Bogalusa; sister-in-law, Betty Rose Hunt of Bogalusa; grandchildren, Benjamin S. Hunt of Alexandria, Donald W. Hall of Bogalusa, and Jason A. Hunt of Baxterville, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Austin J. Hunt of Bogalusa, Niki Montana Hunt of Baxterville, Marley and Madison Hunt of Baxterville, and Briana Springer of Bulger, Pa.; nephews, Charles V. Hunt Jr. of Tennessee and Richard H. Hunt of Angie; niece, Brenda H. Hearn of Alaska; and by many cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends and loyal customers.

Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents, Maxiel and Mary N. Hunt; brother, Charles V. Hunt Sr.; and grandsons, Scott B. Hunt and Cody A. Sheridan.

Visitation was held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Visitation continued at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Funeral services began at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dennis Allen officiating. Interment followed at Lee’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside services by the Magic City American Legion Post #24.
