Ben’s Ford Christian School is home tonight, playing against Acadiana Home School, as the Eagles look for their first win of the season.

Last week, Ben’s Ford lost to Amite School Center, 38-0, to move to 0-2.

“We’ve just got to find a combination that works,” Ben’s Ford coach Robert N. Cook said. “We’re not very good as a coaching staff right now. We’re not putting the players where they need to be to make plays and that is our fault.

“Hopefully this week will give us a chance to get a win under our belts and give our kids some confidence. Hopefully this will be our starting point.”

Cook had high praise for his seniors, who he said are doing a top-notch job of trying to get the younger guys to step up.

Cook also complimented offensive lineman/defensive lineman Tyrik Bickham.

“Tyrik’s the kind of guy that he doesn’t say a lot. He’s an easy-going guy until he steps across the lines onto the field — then he’s a football player,” Cook said. “I am so proud of his attitude.”

Cook also talked highly of quarterback/wide receiver/linebacker Tyler Winstead, noting his work ethic.

“He’s a 10th grader and he’s always in the weight room always wanting to get better,” Cook said. “That’s the kind of kid you like to have because his work ethic will rub off on others.”

The teams did not play against each other last season.

Acadiana Home School also comes in with an 0-2 record after losing the first two weeks to New Orleans Home School. Last week, the score was 36-22. They play in an Independent League.

Acadiana coach C.J. Melancon said the team has a lot of seniors, but also a number of freshmen.

Quarterback Ashton Chopin threw for more than 200 yards last week with three touchdowns and five interceptions.

Running back Brian Bossier will be a game time decision because of an injury. The other running back is Noah Emfinger.

The team rotates several wide receivers. Two of them are Alex Smith and Daytan Babineaux.

Melancon said Smith is a good all-around receiver, and that Babineaux is a talented young player.

“He’s not starting, but he’s getting a lot of playing time,” Melancon said.

Payton Treat is the tight end.

The offensive line is young with just one senior.

The top defenders are end Treat, cornerback Emfinger and defensive end/linebacker Vaughn Palmer.
