Geneva Holmes Holston of Bogalusa was granted her angel wings and went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at the age of 74.

Her final days were surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her memorable life.

“MeeMaw,” as she was lovingly known by her family, was a devoted wife and amazing mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her unwavering faith in God and her generous, kind heart.

Geneva’s story began in Oakley, Miss., on March 7, 1942. She was the youngest child born to Clarence and Daisy Holmes. Her family later moved to Bogalusa, and there she spent the rest of her days.

She was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for more than 30 years. Her beautiful smile could always be seen from the choir loft on Sunday mornings as she joyously sang praises to her Lord. She was employed by Walter S. Adams, CPA, a very close, and dear friend.

MeeMaw enjoyed church activities, music, watching Jeopardy and The Wheel of Fortune, playing word games and puzzles, and, most of all, spending time with her cherished family.

Geneva is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, John Ray Holston; her parents, Clarence and Daisy Holmes: one brother, Dudley Holmes; and one sister, Earline Kendrick.

She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her children, Theresa Rutledge (Joseph Jr) of Isabel, Sonya Flynn (Ronald) of Isabel, and Jonathan Holston (Karen) of Bogalusa. She was also a caring stepmother to John Holston Jr. (Kim) of Amarillo, Texas, Dana Cirelli (Jim) of Houston, Texas, and Glen Holston (Jeannie) of Lafayette.

She was an adoring and devoted MeeMaw to 13 grandchildren and to 13 great-grandchildren; and loving sister to Clarence Holmes(Kae) of Rowlett, Texas, Ralph Holmes of Swannanoa, N.C., Frank Holmes of Fort Valley, Ga., and Frances Moody of Bogalusa.

Her family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers and wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to Passages Hospice for their support in her final days.

Visitation will be held at Brown-McGehee on Friday, Sept. 23, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in Bogalusa. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The Reverend Marcus Rosa of Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church will officiate the ceremony. Pastor Caleb Martin of Ben’s Ford Baptist Church will also contribute to the ceremony.

Geneva was an admirable woman that was loved, is missed, and will forever be cherished. She was our angel, and blessing to all who knew her. She laughed, lived and loved unconditionally. Hers was truly a life well lived.
