Rev. Charles Lucas

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).

The Rev. Charles Stanley Lucas, 74, a resident of Jackson, Miss., departed this life Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

His religious training and teaching began at his home church, St. Paul A.M.E. Church of Bogalusa. After graduating from Central Memorial High School Class of 1962, he moved to Chicago, Ill. He was employed by Sears and Chicago Transit until he became ill and moved with his daughter to Jackson. The Rev. Lucas was a retired minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church after serving for numerous years in Chicago.

The Rev. Lucas leaves to celebrate his life: a wife, Gloria, and one loving devoted daughter, Carolyn Lucas Torrey of Jackson; his father, Bro. Raleigh Odell Lucas Sr. of Bogalusa; three brothers, Raleigh Odell Lucas II (Diane) of Bastrop, the Rev. Larry (Mary) Lucas of Bogalusa and Wilbert Lucas of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Lazette (Larry) Watterson and Ruth Lucas, both of Bogalusa; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers of the clergy, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Porter Martin; his sister, Shirlane Martin Smith; and an aunt, Nettie Henderson, who helped rear him.

The homegoing service will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at Pearl Street A.M.E. Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Samuel Boyd officiating.
