Mr. Richard Rand Porter, born in Winfield, on Dec. 4, 1926, passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at his residence in Bogalusa, at the age of 89.
Mr. Porter was self-employed as a civil engineer for several years, and was a very active member of ESM Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Stewards, and serving as usher. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he was in the battalion of the first wave of men to enter the Korean War.
His affections and charm among young people and children was a decided trail of humanity, such as few have ever known. Richard Rand Porter mentored young men in various positions on local, regional and on state levels for Scouting. He resigned long past retirement age and was too modest to say how proud he was of the many men he had the opportunity to lead and the success they have achieved.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline Perrin Porter; his parents, Hezikiah Porter Sr. and Bertha Ingram Porter; his brothers, Osler Porter, Harmon Porter and Hezikiah Porter Jr.; and his sisters, Hannah Gaspard, Eunice Broad, Vermell Loveless, Matty Wilson and Nadine Sims.
Mr. Porter is survived by his wife, Elva Jo Boyd Rogers Porter of Bogalusa; his daughter, Donna Lynn Porter Guidry of Mandeville; grandchildren, Channing Perrin Guidry and Callie Porter Guidry; his step-children, Jeffrey Boyd (Donna) Rogers Sr., Marsha R. Rogers and David W. Rogers; and his step-grandchildren, Jeffrey (Shannon) Boyd Jr., John D. Rogers, Jessica Lynn Fury and Jordan Kate Vidrine.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., all at ESM Methodist Church. The Rev. Bill Moon will officiate and interment will be held in Winfield, at a later date.
