An Angie man was arrested on Tuesday for and charged with several felonies he allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend while armed with a gun.

A Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office sergeant responded to a complaint of a man with a gun outside a residence in Angie. The address was not released because of children at the home.

Upon arriving at the scene, the sergeant discovered Anthony Glenn Smith in the yard outside the residence. Smith, according to the sheriff’s office, appeared to be intoxicated and was behaving in a hostile manner. The sergeant detained Smith and placed him in handcuffs.

The sergeant’s subsequent investigation revealed that Smith had come home intoxicated and began arguing with his girlfriend who was in the house with her children and grandchildren. Smith then grabbed his girlfriend’s car keys and exited the house. He came back into the house and threatened all of the occupants with a pistol he had obtained from his girlfriend’s car. Smith then went outside again and his girlfriend locked the door behind him and called the sheriff’s office.

While being questioned about the incident, Smith admitted that he had thrown the pistol into the front yard. The sergeant was able to locate and secure the weapon.

Smith was placed in the Washington Parish jail charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, one count of aggravated assault domestic violence and four counts of domestic abuse child endangerment. No bond has been set at this time.

“Domestic violence is not acceptable under any circumstances,” said Sheriff Randy Seal, “and is made worse when children are involved. With the presence of the firearm, this could have escalated into a more serious situation. I congratulate our sergeant for resolving the issue so quickly and making the arrest.”
