Rory Derek Dyson was born Nov. 8, 1957, in Bogalusa, to the late Ellyson Frederick “Tat” and Marie Margaret Magee Dyson. Rory lived a beautiful life with challenges and peacefully went to be with the Lord, after a long illness, on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016.

A simple man, he enjoyed attending church services, talking on the telephone, fishing, reading and spending time with family and friends. Nothing was more important to Rory than keeping up with family and friends and finding out what was going on in Franklinton. If lucky enough to be called a friend, then you were automatically given family status.

Rory is survived by: a sister, Cynthia Elida Dyson McCant and her husband Ellis of Hanford, Calif.; two brothers, Ellyson F. “Rick” Dyson Jr. and his wife Charmaine of Missouri City, Texas, and Reginald Ulric Dyson and his wife Devoria “Becky” of Missouri City; five nephews, Ellyson F. Dyson III of Houston, Texas, William Remington Dyson and his wife Crystal of Chicago, Ill., Evan Carrollton McCant and Errol Carrellis McCant of Hanford, and Rejhi Fletcher Dyson of Missouri City; two nieces, Angela Charmaine Marie Dyson of Chicago, and Amanda Marredith Dyson of Missouri City; four aunts, Fredericka Carter of Albuquerque, N.M., Freda Magee of Franklinton, Edith Dyson of San Francisco, Calif., and Evelyn “Freck” Dyson of Baton Rouge; one godchild, Draper Crain of Baton Rouge; one godsister, Kathy Taylor Walton and husband Reggie of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a host of cousins, fraternity brothers and friends.

The celebration of life and memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. at Winan United Methodist Church, located at 622 18th Ave. in Franklinton, with Pastor Darlene A. Moore officiating and the Rev. Terrence August delivering the eulogy.
