It’s been a tough season for Bogalusa, but there’s still a chance with two games left that the Lumberjacks could make the playoffs.

Tonight, the Lumberjacks play their first of their final two regular season games, both at home. Tonight’s game is a District 7-3A contest.

Bogalusa begins this week with a 1-7 overall record and 1-2 in district play. The Lumberjacks are No. 32 in the unofficial LHSAA Class 3A power ratings.

Bogalusa is coming off of a 27-22 loss to undefeated Albany.

“Sumner, they’ve got a big ol’ offensive line,” Bogalusa coach David Roberts said. “We’re going to have to play assignment football to stop their option. They can run on both sides of the ball. They’ve got athletes. I know we’ve struggled on offense, but hopefully, we can put their defense in a bad spot with formations.

“This week is a big game. It’s a must win if we want to give ourselves a shot to go to the playoffs.”

Last week, Bogalusa scored three touchdowns.

Jay Baham threw to Sal Pittman for a score and Baham also ran for a touchdown.

Dominique Tillman picked up a fumble and ran for a score.

The Lumberjacks nearly had another touchdown on an interception return by Javon Tate, but it was called back on a facemask penalty.

Roberts said Baham is the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Thomas Turner suffered an injury and will be playing receiver and defensive back when he returns. On Wednesday, David Roberts said Turner was questionable for this week.

“Jay’s got a strong arm and he’s really fast,” Roberts said, about Baham. “He’s not big, but he’s fast. He gives defenses problems. If the defense is playing pass, he can take off and run. He’s one of our fastest kids.”

Roberts also praised Pittman’s recent play.

“He’s caught some balls,” Roberts said. “He was of the leaders for us this summer. He showed up and tried to get guys out to workouts. He’s smart and has good hands.”

Roberts said his front seven has played well all year.

Bogalusa won last year’s contest 36-14.

It’s also been a tough season for Jewel Sumner, but like Bogalusa, a playoff berth is not out of the question. The Cowboys enter this week with a 2-6 overall record and 0-2 in district.
