Enrollment at the Northshore Technical Community College’s Sullivan campus increased by 7 percent in spring 2017, NTCC officials announced earlier this week.

Dr. William Wainwright, chancellor of NTCC, stated that enrollment growth is a direct reflection of new program development, as well as long-standing high quality training programs that have built solid reputations with employers throughout the region. New programs, such as electrical and pharmacy tech, have contributed to enrollment growth, in addition to the start of a new nursing class, Wainwright said.

“The Sullivan campus represents a rich history of workforce training celebrating 87 years,” Wainwright said. “This college will continue to serve residents of Washington Parish and surrounding counties and parishes for years to come.”

While a new campus is opening in Lacombe in St. Tammany Parish, with an additional campus to be constructed in Walker, unique programs offered at the new locations will only enhance existing programs at campuses — such as maritime studies. For example, students in St. Tammany studying maritime will have opportunities for hands on technical training at the Hammond and Sullivan campuses in courses like electrical, welding, and machining, which are not offered at the new STEM campus in Lacombe.

In addition, students attending the Sullivan campus in the future will have access to unique and expanded courses at the new Lacombe STEM campus to enhance program offerings.

“Simply put, there are no duplication of programs that will be offered in Lacombe,” Wainwright said. “The unique programs offered at the Sullivan campus as well as the Hammond Area and Florida Parishes campuses will sustain and continue to serve the workforce training needs of our region.”
