Mary J. Myers

Mary J. Myers was born on May 2, 1950 to the parents of Solomon Oless Matthews and Pearlie Morris Matthews, both of Varnado. She joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church as a young child and remained an active member until her death. Mary entered into eternal rest on March 13, 2017.
Mary Jane grew up in Varnado. She was a graduate of Wesley Ray High School (class of 1968). She was an educator in both the Washington Parish and Bogalusa City Schools, where she inspired many young minds. She was always willing to share the gospel whenever the opportunity presented itself. She was a loving, caring, giving, devoted and faithful mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her children and grandchildren were the joys of her life, which she often expressed through her soulful cooking.
She leaves to cherish her memories: five children, Mary (Terry) May, Cecil (Crystal) Myers, Miranda Myers, Bette (Dwight) Womack and Keith Myers; three brothers, Bobby (Esther) Matthews Sr., Richard (Ellen) Matthews Sr. and Joseph Matthews Sr.; six grandsons, Cecil Quantrel Myers, Cedric Myers, Christian Myers, Jeremiah Williams, Braiden Womack and Edgrin Magee; four granddaughters, Rod’Neshia Williams, Ceara Myers, Caryl Womack and Lela Myers; and special nieces/nephew, Tammy (Melvin) Chandler and Tiwanda Matthews; and a host of relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Solomon (Pearlie) Matthews; one daughter, Miesha Q. Myers; two sisters, Ozalean Foster and Paulette Foster.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the chapel of Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, March 18, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, located at 64115 Jones Creek Road in Angie, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Byron Muse officiating.
Interment will follow in the Robinson Cemetery in Varnado.
