On Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 8:42 a.m., a head on crash on Alton Williams Road near Angie claimed the life of Shanda Cherie Cothern, 25, a resident of Alton Williams Road.
The 1991 Oldsmobile 88 being driven southbound by Ms. Cothern crashed head on with a northbound 2011 Toyota Camry. Ms. Cothern was pronounced dead on the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office. A rear seat juvenile passenger in her vehicle was airlifted to a medical center for injuries. The thirty-three year old female driver of the Toyota also suffered injuries and was transported by ambulance to North Oaks Hospital. The condition of the injured persons is unknown at this time. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor and all occupants appear to have been properly restrained.
Sheriff Randy Seal cautions all persons to drive in a safe and responsible manner. “ I remind everyone that the speed limit on all parish roads is 30 miles per hour. From all reports, speed is considered to be a factor in this crash. Even though all three occupants appeared to be properly restrained, the force of impact was so great that all suffered injuries. It is so important that all persons drive responsibly. This means obey all speed limits, don’t text or otherwise use your cell phone, buckle up, drive sober, and always be aware of road conditions.”
